L’OAM APNOSOM® est une orthèse d’avancée mandibulaire sur mesure qui ne peut être délivrée que sur prescription médicale d’un professionnel de santé.
C’est un dispositif médical intra-oral indiqué en première intention dans les apnées légères à modérées.

L’OAM APNOSOM® permet de traiter l’apnée du sommeil léger qui est pris en charge par la Sécurité Sociale (SS) et les mutuelles pour soulager les ronfleurs victimes d’apnées du sommeil.

Il est possible de lutter contre le SAHOS. Lutter d’abord contre l’obésité. La perte de poids est efficace pour limiter efficacement les effets du SAHOS. Le surpoids est l’ennemi du système cardiovasculaire, viennent ensuite le tabac et l’alcool qui encouragent le ronflement et l’apnée.

Selon le niveau de SAHOS, trois solutions sont proposées essentiellement :

• une OAM (orthèse d’avancée mandibulaire),
• une PPC (Pression positive Continue) un masque d’assistance respiratoire, et
• la chirurgie ORL.

Le SAHOS, un ennemi sournois et mortel

Une personne souffrant du SAHOS ne le sait pas toujours puisqu’elle dort. Dans la majorité des cas, c’est le conjoint qui alerte son partenaire. Le premier phénomène repérable est le ronflement sonore.
Les patients développent des symptômes qui peuvent être très graves : Hypertension, risque d’AVC, insuffisance cardiaque, diabète de type II, fatigue extrême, irritabilité, baisse de la mémoire, diminution de la libido Etc…

Le risque de mortalité, dont la mort subite, est multiplié par 3.

Le risque d’accident de la route lié à la somnolence et aux micro-endormissements est multiplié par 15.

Par ailleurs, les apnéistes qui se retrouvent isolés, ne découchent plus ou presque de crainte de gêner les autres.

On estime que 5millions de personnes souffrent de SAHOS, pourtant seuls 50% sont détectés ; ce qui en fait une cause nationale en France

De manière générale, ce sont les partenaires d’un apnéiste qui se rendent compte des problèmes d’apnée. Tous, témoigne de voir leur partenaire ne plus respirer. Ils évoquent ensuite les ronflements qui le tiennent éveillé toute la nuit.

Au début, c’est gênant, puis insupportable. Quand cela est possible, le partenaire change de chambre. Enfin, ils subissent l’irritabilité de l’apnéiste, toujours fatigué et agressif sans comprendre pourquoi. La libido de l’apnéiste est très passive, les hommes sont victimes de dysfonctions érectiles et de nycturies. Les relations de couple se dégradent. Le partenaire concerné par le SAHOS fini par s’isoler, victime involontaire d’un dysfonctionnement nocturne.

Avec la participation du Dr Philippe LAFOSSE, Oto-Rhino-Laryngologiste, le Dr Henry FRAJDER, docteur en chirurgie dentaire et en sciences odontologiques, est, entre autres, un spécialiste en médecine du sommeil, a mené une étude sur une sélection de 50 patients atteints d’apnée de SAHOS. Les patients ont tous été traités et suivis avec l’OAM APNOSOM sur une durée de 3 ans. 

Les résultats de cette étude ont démontré une amélioration des résultats cliniques de 85,7%.

Par ailleurs, le travail conjoint du Dr Philippe LAFOSSE et du Dr Henry FRAJDER, avec le Laboratoire AGL, fabricant certifié des OAM APNOSOM et en Dispositifs Médicaux dentaires, ont permis des améliorations sur plusieurs points techniques, notamment en termes de réglages facilités, mais aussi pour obtenir le meilleur confort en bouche en vue de garantir la meilleure observance du traitement pour les patients atteints de SAHOS léger et modéré.

Ces résultats, obtenus au terme de trois années d’études, permettent au laboratoire AGL de s’inscrire en qualité de fabricant auprès de l’ANSM, mais aussi d’effectuer une demande d’accord auprès de la Haute Autorité de Santé afin d’obtenir un remboursement de la Sécurité Sociale pour son OAM.

Le Dr Henry FRAJDER continue ses recherches en collaboration avec la Société Française de Médecine Dentaire du Sommeil (SFMDS) afin d’obtenir une constante amélioration des techniques pour le traitement de l’apnée du sommeil.
